DMB violinist Boyd Tinsley has joined the board of trustees for the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. The Charlottesville-based organization is one of the nation's leading institutions dedicated to the protection of First Amendment rights. They're most well-known for their annual Jefferson Muzzle awards, given to those individuals and organizations who engaged in the most egregious acts of censorship in the previous year. Tinsley joined the board just in time to participate in the process of selecting the recipients of the dubious award, a process that he's said to have jumped into with great enthusiasm. Tinsley is known for his support of Democratic political candidates and school music programs; this is his first foray into protecting the freedom of expression.
