RFK Crowd Problems

Hey Waldo,

I wanted to let you know about the situation that occured at RFK on Saturday during the Dave show. It would seem that the concert turned into a very dangerous situation with potentially diasterous effects and my concern is shared by many. If at all possible, I would like you to post to the site the problems at RFK this past weekend so as to encourage other fans to relax and have a good time without making a situation dangerous at these venues.

I posted on the tour archive my thoughts and feelings about the show. I mentioned also how out of control the crowd was for a good portion of the show too. I was in section A1, Row 1...basically in the front row but on the far right side of the floor. Because of the line of sight problems, that section was pushed back about 20 feet so there was a big open area in front of me leading to the fence that seperates the crowd from the stage. Immediatly when Dave took the stage, people attempted to stay in that area to watch the show...security asked them to go back or arrested them if they refused to leave. It was just a few in the beginning, so security had it under control, I was impressed actually. But by the 4th song, it was just literally a steady line of people fighting to get to the front and soon the open area was filled with atleast 200 people. Security had no chance of turning all these people back, so they didnt. My girlfriend and I took the situation with ease, we have been to dozens of Dave shows, we dont need to see the band and all that...we just enjoyed it all. But many people around us were clashing with the crowd and fights were breaking out. The mob(as it soon had become)was so thick that security couldnt make it through the crowd to break it up. Many people were just plain mean to each other which is really unfortunate when we are all there to have a good time with the band we love.

My situation seems to be the least of the troubles that occured on Saturday night. Reports on the tour archive speak of getting "ran over" "cuts and bruises" and "people getting crushed." Esp. up in the front middle where people really were rushing the stage. Actually on what shot that made it up on the video walls you could see literally 10 rows of people falling forward onto each other like dominoes from the surging crowd behind them. Dave was extremely upset but, of course, couldnt yell at the mob because that wouldnt have helped...so he attempted to be cool by asking everyone to calm down, not to push, lean back and to just "groove." Someone said on the archive they read that Dave didnt want to do an encore so as not to endanger anyone.

The point of all this is, I would really like you to post something telling people of what happened at RFK and when they go to their shows during this upcoming tour, to just enjoy the show from their seats. Rushing the stage puts you closer to the boys, but it also puts others in danger. With literally thousands of people moving up on Saturday, people were getting trampled on, hurt and pushed over. I had front row seats and as we were leaving the show my girlfriend and I were talking about how much we were looking forward to being back in the stadium seating at Giants Stadium on Monday.

Thanks for your time,
BJ Leiby
