About John Mayer

The talented 25-year-old singer/songwriter, John Mayer, was born on October 16, 1977, and grew up in Connecticut. (Now living in New York) He had listened to pop for most of his life, until hearing blues at age 13. Immediately after, John picked up a guitar and two years later, was performing at clubs all over the northeast, although his talent on the guitar was not as interesting to him as writing and performing his own music. Aiding his musical development was his brief training at Boston's Berklee College of Music in the mid 90s. In 1998, he moved to Atlanta, and established a name for himself, releasing Inside Wants Out in 1999. In 2000, he went to Austin's South By Southwest (SXSW) music conference, signing on with Columbia Records' Aware division shortly thereafter. His major label debut, Room for Squares, was produced by John Alagia (who worked with Dave Matthews Band before discovering -- and preferring -- John Mayer). It was RfS that would make Mayer famous.

JM is known for his honest lyrics and unique style of music. His music has been categorized as Pop, Rock, and even Folk, but is probably best described as good, honest music. His music has been compared to everything from Sting to the Dave Matthews Band. John has a unique style that cannot be found anywhere else.

JM is universally loved by his fans for his adoration, committment to, and respect for them. Nobody could ever accuse Mayer of "selling out." Says JM: "[My fans] are probably the people who had to bounce around to a couple different lunch tables before they found one they could sit at. Not because they were strange, but because they were just a little ahead of their time. And I'm onstage being paid to tell them, 'It's OK, I'm with you.'"
