UVa to Demolish Trax

Charlottesville's University of Virginia has approved the purchase of the Trax nightclub for the purpose of demolishing it. They're paying $1.2M for the complex, which includes the Max nightclub as well, to use it as a staging area for the upcoming $58M expansion on the mammoth UVa hospital, which is immediately next to Trax. The nightclub, which was opened in 1982, was most popular throughout the early to mid 90s, during which time Dave Matthews Band's weekly gigs there propelled them to national fame. In addition, it was the location of the Remember Two Things and Crash release parties. It has been closed since July, when a Florida businessman purchased it with the intention of opening it last fall as a Top 40 dance club. The Cavailer Daily has the story.
