Stephen Thompson in The Onion A.V. Club reviews Busted Stuff relatively-positively in their latest edition. Thompson declares it "liberated of windy excesses," though says "it's no Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" (referring to Wilco's recent release), concluding by saying that "Matthews' discards are often more compelling than his hits."
