Happy April Fools' Day
Letters from people who got the joke (the "April Fools'!" category) were usually quite brief and good-humored. A surprising number of people made specific reference to the unfortunate state of their undergarments, either from shock or laughter. ("Would you please send me a package of new underwear as when I was navigating through this fascinating web site I s*** my pants and ruined my drawers.") This isn't something that we'll be exploring further. Typical of the comments is Anna's, who writes:
"Oh I needed this....I can't believe you guys went to this much trouble, but VERY funny April Fool's Day joke. My compliments to the chef."Jeff, also from the "April Fools'!" category, falls into the often-seen "Slow Realization" subcategory:
"Just needed to question your move with nancies.org. I completely understand and respect your musical tastes and opinions but to turn nancies.org into a John Mayer site seems wrong. Why not start a seperate site? Why not ask the millions of DMB fans out ther to take over nancies.org if you cannot maintain two sites. Just seems weird. Holy shit. As I was writing this I just realized that it was April 1st. If this is what I think it is you guys are good. Peace"Finally, from the "Mayer is Better" category, we have Kristin, who, for one, welcomes her new insect overlords:
"I have never been so excited in all my life! What an extraordinary idea this new website is. My only concern is I fell that we no longer have the right to refer to ourselves as nancies...perhaps we should try something more related to john and not those horrible sell-outs - the Dave Matthews Band. In calling ourselves 'nancies' I feel we are limiting John's talent, for we are associating him with DMB - which is, IMHO, a far less talented group than the great john mayer. I expect you to look into this as soon as possible."To be fair, Kristin very well may be playing a joke on us; one can never tell.
Making good use of the time, we took advantage of the day to run some repair utilities on our overburdened databases, a task that is normally impossible, due to the heavy usage that our discussion boards receive at all times.
All in all, everything was summed up nicely by Dawn, who e-mailed us just a few minutes before the John Mayer site was replaced with the real one:
"what in god's name are you thinking, messing with a bunch of rabid, loyal, obsessed Dave Matthews fans like this?"Dawn, that's an excellent question. We're not sure that we have an answer just yet, but we'll chew on that and figure it out. One way or another, DMB fans would be wise to keep their wits about them this time next year. We're bound to outdo ourselves.
