3 Devil Songs Broadcast
By Waldo JaquithJul.29.2003
This past weekend, Dave Matthews was a guest at a Los Angeles radio station, which played three tracks from his forthcoming solo album, Some Devil. Recent concert staple "Gravedigger" was played, having been boiled down to 3:50 for the disc, along with brand-new songs "Save Me" and "So Damn Lucky," each of which clock in at four minutes and change. "Save Me," in particular, is quite poppy, featuring driving drums and female backup vocalists throughout. "So Damn Lucky," somewhat grander in feel, recounts the few passing seconds leading to a car accident. All three songs were recorded off the broadcast, of course, and are circulating widely on file-trading networks. Although many comparisons to the notoriously-slick Everyday have been made, response has been widely positive. Some Devil is scheduled for a September 23rd release date.
