By Waldo JaquithJul.06.2005
At Saturday's show at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, 33-year-old Grania Maggio, a devoted DMB fan, was struck by a car while leaving the concert, killing her. The driver fled the scene in his vehicle. The accident happened at the intersection of Route 50 and Geyser Road at 11:37 Saturday night. Police and Grania's family are desperately seeking more information from eyewitnesses in order to solve the crime. Maggio, a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, worked as a physical therapist in Toms River, NJ. If you have any information that could help locate the person who killed Grania, please contact Sgt. Wildy at the Saratoga Springs Police Department, at 518-584-1800, or Crime Stoppers New York, which takes anonymous tips, at 866-313-TIPS. Jul.11 Update: Police have arrested a man who they suspect was the driver. 30-year-old Alexander Bennett, who has a history of drunk driving, was arrested for drunk driving about an hour after the incident. Police credited the help of the public in making the arrest, though they're still seeking anybody who saw Bennett drinking that night.
