Musician Chris Whitley died on Sunday, after a protracted illness, according to his website. Whitley was one of the first artists signed to Dave Matthews' ATO Records, but was removed from the label a year after he was dropped from DMB's tour for an apparent substance-abuse problem. He was 45 years old.
