Band Mulling SF Concert
By Waldo JaquithMar.24.2004
In today's San Francisco Chronicle, a column by Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross makes a notable offhand mention: "Dave Matthews, in concert at Golden Gate Park -- free." Matier and Ross came to this conclusion based on a permit request filed by the band with the city of San Francisco for the use of the park this summer. A band spokesman confirmed the permit request, saying that an event was under consideration, but that the request was a very early step in the evaluation process. He emphasized that the band's attentions are currently turned to the New York weekend festival, which is in the development phase. Astute observers may recall that last June, Bonnaroo NE was cancelled due to a permit problem with Riverhead, NY, the Long Island town where the event was to have been held. Given that Bonnaroo is backed by folks from DMB management, presumably they're now a little more cautious about permits. Thanks to Bonnie Rupel for the tip. 04/02 Update: More details were offered in the most recent column.
