Darien was my first DMB concert. So far it has been my favorite. It had everything: a great opening band (Ben Harper), Seek Up for an opening, granny, and true reflections. It is rare to get a show with granny and true reflections, but to get them both at my first concert I was nuts!! Tripping Billies and Rhyme and Reason were very strong spirited songs during the show. Of course the crowd was waiting for the current hit Too Much and the singing from the crowd continued into Ants Marching. We were all hoping for Watchtower for the encore but an awesome Recently did the job. After Recently I thought the show was going to be over, then Dave started talking about him and Leroi in their bar. He wondered what would have been if things could have been slightly different, I think you all know where this went. The show was definitely worth the 2 hours I drove to see it!

Crowd: A great surprise. This crowd, at least on the lawn, was very much into the entire show. When Granny came on, they all kept dancing. The crowd never sat down, everyone had a blast. A giant stuffed frog was thrown around early on (probably won at the Darien Lake amusement park), it soon was ripped and its legs were seen flying around. A few glowsticks were chucked around too. The drunk people were fun to watch. Show: It was very different from the earlier shows in this tour I believe. I hope I'm not mistaken, but True Reflection hasn't been played in a while has it? Anyhow, that was terrific, as was Granny. There were actually a lot of surprises. Cry Freedom was moved to the main set from the encore (I know a nancie posted about this recently, could the band be reading the list?). Say Goodbye was great, there was something different about it though. In all the versions I've heard, Dave always sins about a storm outside, or snow outside, but tonight he sang "it's nice outside, the sky is bright" that was different. The encore was wholly unexpected, I was looking for a solo Dave song followed by Watchtower, but instead got Recently (with some people do, pretty pretty girl, and band intros) and an amazing 10 minute Dancing Nancies. Boyd was amazing on this, he was on all night (and he did something to his hair). During Crash (with the Dixie Chicken lines), lasers and fireworks from the amusement parks laser show began. They continued throughout the rest of the show, while not coordinated with the music, it was still pretty damn cool to have fireworks and lasers going over my head. Also, in Two-Step, Dave sang stuff about celebrating during the intro plucking part. At one point in the middle of the show he whipped out this sheet with a firedancer on it that someone must have made for the band. True Reflection had a really cool new bass part for Stefan, Too Much was phenomenal, and Dave did the Fame lines. During the encore Dave did his Jack Daniels thing, and in Dancing Nancies he talked about how he was bartending and would pour drinks for people and talk with them about politics, religion, fear, then he talked about how he and LeRoi would drink whiskey. The show was fantastic. The traffic getting there was a bitch (it took me 2.5 hours to do the last 5 miles), so I missed Ben Harper. Luckily though, I walked in just as the crowd roared and the band went on stage, so I didn't miss any of the music (unlike some of my friends who missed over half the show).
