This was my very first Dave Matthews Band show - I had gotten heavily into them in the summer of 1996 thanks to a friend, and for a first show this was a dream setlist for me. I was given bootlegs from a friend that spring that included Lie In Our Graves/Seek Up/Two Step, so I knew what I wanted to hear. I couldn't believe that I got LIOG/LLD/JT/2Step/DIDO and Seek Up! This was the great old time when So Much To Say and Too Much weren't one song, and everyone wasn't tired of Too Much. The jamming was incredible, and Roi had almost equal time to Boyd, which apparently was a rarer thing back those days. I had scored 3rd row tickets from a pre-sale, and I was psyched:

Seek Up - What a way to start a show. This was one of my favorite tunes at the time and only had bootleg versions of it (didn't have R2T). It was amazing. I was very surprised to hear it, with it not being on Crash or UTTAD..

So Much To Say - Pretty good, seemed like more of a warm-up for the rest of the night though.

Lie In Our Graves - Incredible. I have seen better LIOG's since, mostly Boyd-centric, but this one was very heavy Boyd and Roi going back and forth. It blew me away, and was the first time I ever was in awe at a DMB show.

#41 - I'm not the biggest fan, I would much rather have gotten a Say Goodbye, but oh well. Still pretty damn good.

Two Step - Holy shit. It was mind-blowing, and Dave was dancing like a maniac. Long, long version of this. And when was the last time Two Step was played 5th in the set??

Too Much - This had just hit the radio because of the debut of Crash. It was okay, a short version.

Lover Lay Down - This was one of the songs I was dying to hear. The solos were absolutely incredible. It was like a dream, it was so hauntingly beautiful.

Rhyme & Reason - Pretty sick version.

Jimi Thing - I couldn't believe I was lucky enough to hear LIOG and Jimi in the same setlist. This just blew me away, this was one of my favorite tunes and my dream setlist was playing out in front of me. The jams during this period seemed way more spontaneous then what is heard now. This was a good 10+ minute version.

Drive In Drive Out - This was quite good, but gave me a moment to rest since it wasn't one of my favs.

Crash Into Me - Absolutely incredible. This was a huge song at the time, Crash had just come out and I was in love with this song. Hell, I still dig hearing it at the shows, it still sounds great. When was the last time you got Lover Lay Down and Crash Into Me in the same show anymore?

Satellite - Fairly straight-forward reading, but it was cool to hear since this was the first song I heard of DMB on the radio that made me think I should maybe check them out.

Ants Marching - And the Gund goes nuts. Incredible, long, energetic. Lots of dancing and good times all around.

Encore: Little Thing - Very cool. Little Thing was still in fledgling stages and had Dave mostly talking over his chording, the story was very different in this version then when I heard it later during the Dave/Tim shows. It was cool to get something absolutely new, especially when Crash had just came out.

All Along the Watchtower - I had a bootleg with a sick version of this so I was wondering if they might break this off since I had heard almost everything else - I figured it was this or Warehouse. I was definitely not disappointed by this version..it was almost as incredible as the bootleg I had.

All in all this is the show that got me hooked. While some of the songs may look a bit boring now that we have some other huge concert staples (Louisana Bayou, Everyday/36, Grey Street, DDTW, Bartender, Pig), it was an amazing show for the time and had some great jamming. If given the option, I'll bet a lot of people would pay to see this exact setlist today..
