After waiting in traffic for over an hour just to get to the parking lot we got in line to pick up our reserved seats. The goofball in front of us in line took forever...it turned out that he was trying to buy tickets to Billy Ray Cyrus =(. The place was packed... 25,000 intoxicated, burnt and "smart" people wandering in no definite direction as far as my eyes could see. Stupid traffic made us miss almost all of Bela Fleck but the portion that we did see was great. We shoved our way to our seats and sat down just as the lights dimmed and Dave and Crew took the stage. The roar of the crowd was deafening but felt good. The show started off mellow with some softer, slower songs and then got stronger and louder... eventually, about an hour into the show, they got into So Much to Say and Too Much. The crowd went nuts. I would guess that at least 50 chairs made their way to the stage where the crew carried them off. I was surprised to see some crowd surfing, small-time moshing, etc. Dave got pissed off at one point when a little girl had to be carried out after being kicked in the head by some guy. He had a few choice words for the kicker. Anyway, DMB played a great show! It's was tons of fun and they sounded great! The several showings of guest Bela Fleck added to the great sound...that guy's awesome. Even though it was all the same as last time, it was still great. DMB rules!!

17 songs, 3 hours. Lots of jamming, on almost every song. Bela was amazing, especially during LIOG, which had the best instrumental I have ever heard for that song. However, I would say that the peak of the evening was, even with a Weight of the World, was the Two Step closer. It was almost 20 minutes, and Bela, Dave, Stefan, and Boyd built it up for about ten, then brought it down beautifully for almost 10 minutes. It was the best song I have *ever* heard in concert. I would have to say that this was the best DMB show I have been at (my fourth), and the best work I've heard from them in a long time. I would not be at all surprised if it became a "landmark" show. It was simply wonderful...

First, I want to say that I'm from Montreal, so I drove 3 hours and a half to see Dave's concert. It was AMAZING! I've known Dave Matthews for only one year, but I it was the best concert of my entire life(and I've seen a lot of shows!). The SPAC was a wonderful place for this type of presentation, even though the sound wasn't the best. Dave was in great shape and the band played for three hours. They gave all they had to the public. Something particular happened at the beginning of the show. A big guy in the front row was a little to crazy, and was body surfing and jumping around everywhere. In the middle of "Jimi Thing" a girl was hurt by this guy and taken out of the crowd. At the end of the song, Dave Matthews blasted the guy by saying: "F&*k you! you're a stupid motherf&*ker," etc. Great shot, Dave! Even if I've never liked "Ants Marching" a lot, I think it was the best song of the evening. It was beautiful to see that the crowd knew the lyrics perfectly and was signing along while the violenist Boyd Tinsley was giving himself entirely to us. The guy from "Bela Fleck" did a great guitar solo on "Lie in our graves" and so on "#41" (in the second one, it was a banjo solo!) All in all, my favorite Dave song is "Two Step". At one point, I was wondering if he was gonna play this tune or not. But, at the end of the concert, just before the "encore", he played it. It was magic! The song was like a dream... Dave, at the beginning did a special voice intro. Nice! Other songs I've liked a lot: "Tripping Billies" (the lighting was exceptional), "Crash into me" and "Typical situation". It was a great night and I suggest to everybody to go see Dave at least one time in their lives!

To anyone who thinks Dave is getting flat. . .YOU ARE WRONG. I have seen DMB ten times since Dec 1993 including at FLPAC on Thurs and SPAC--throw in about 150 hours of recordings. While the FLPAC was only a good show, SPAC was way above average IMO. AND AGAIN IT IS ONLY THE THIRD NIGHT. At FLPAC, the setlist was predictable and the sound was marginal. But there were great jams. Lei Roy has evolved as a sax player since the last tour. More weaving solos. I really, really enjoyed Ants. In fact I think the whole band has diversified their skills. Solid bass playing and Boyd is a great showman among other things. As for SPAC, the sound was great and the jams were even more extended than the night before. The first three songs lasted about an hour. Bela was amazing on LIOG and ANTS--although I think unnecessary on Seek Up. The show went forever. Does anyone have a time? One of the people I was with, who was there to hear The Album, made an interesting observation. They thought that Dave held back on the pop stuff because the crowd was SO poorly behaved--three times the gates were crashed--no pun intended--, crowd surfing, some guy climbed freestyle about 4 stories up a metal support, and people were continuously being removed from the front. The point being that if they broke out with Crash, people would have went crazy and others would have been injured. Instead, he put the Crashers--sorry I can't help it--to sleep If Dave normally ad libs the set, the point is moot. But things that support this theory: 1. Dave was clearly pissed at the Crashers. 2. The setlist--at least the order--was not expected. 3. The first few song had long, long jams. 4. They only played two Crash songs through the first half of the show. 5. Dave talked to the band before starting nearly every song. 6. They started to play Crash only after the crowd was relatively calm. Some of the crowd was clearly bored with the extended jams and slow songs. People were constantly seated. There was a lot of talking--to the point that sometimes it sounded like I was in a bar listening to backgroung music over people's conversations. Any input? Anyway . . . I thought this was the second best show that I have seen. The setlist was cool. The jams especially with Bela were great. Ants, LIOG, Two Step--which I did not enjoy at all the night before or the previous year for that matter--, and DIDO were fantastic--among the best I have heard. Bela makes LIOG. As for the opener, Vic Wooten is the man. During the last song, he was swinging the bass around his head and literally just hitting it to produce very cool sounds.

This show was the BEST!!!! The setlist was mostly the commercial stuff that event the not so hard DMB fans would recognize-- But i enjoyed every minute of it. The jams with Bela Fleck were awesome -=-they went on forever. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves. That was because they were pissed at the crowd. After they rushed the stage they started to mosh and surf. This is not the place to do it. Dave got so mad-- he told the "big guys" inthe crowd to stop squeezing the little ladies in the front-- that ignored it -- so Dave said F**k you!!! I think they got the message for all 2 seconds-- Chairs and people were dragged off. Some retarded kid climbed a support beam and then was kicked out. - they girls next to me thought the bathroom was the floor in front of them. using it as their personal bathroom- I thought 'I am not here' then her friend did it 5min later. --disgusting -- just hold it!!! I felt bad for the people who paid for there seats and left because they didn't feel like sitting on their chairs the entire nite-- but hey nobody forced them to leave.. I wish DMB was showing up for the HORDE fest. this year but i guess i will have to wait until they come around again or with Tim . Until then i shall suffer making it even better when i do see them again.. PEACE & DMB
