Great Show! Started a bit slow. I was not pleased with a repeat opener of LIOG. "Recently" was strong, they played it with the complete jam,ala the version on Remember 2 Things. The show really took off with "#41", and "Say Goodbye". "Jimi Thing" was in outer space, LeRoi cooked all night. I was really hoping for a Boyd song and we got "True Reflections" which was a memorable experience as me and my brothers had just busted out celebratory cigars, it was the treat of the night. On the whole, the band was tight and extremely energetic. The crowd knew this and responded furiously In turn, it seemed the band fed off the audience's energy. The show just got hotter and hotter as the night went on (in vintage DMB fasion). "Leave Me Praying" (?) was very good, it was my first time to hear the new song, and everybody I spoke to at the show liked it a lot, I think it's a keeper. I can't wait for Deer Creek on Saturday, they are due for WWYS. I'm also waiting for "Proudest Monkey", but that is just wishful thinking (Bring it back boys).

Out of the four shows I've been to over the past couple years, this was by far the crispiest, cleanist, most beautiful show yet. The band was totally on! Los Lobos even whipped the horses ass! It's just too bad i got stuck in the lawn with all the drunken assholes who pay 30 bucks to chat with their drunken friends while DMB is merely background music. This problem is getting worse and worse... but I won't get into that. You've heard it all before. Anyway, Here's what they played: (Somewhat in order) Lie in our Graves - I'm undecided whether I prefer that as an opener or not. It was a great version nevertheless. It was still a tad quiet though. Tripping Billies - About 7 people including myself knew what this song was by hearing the classic intro. Pretty sad huh. Again, great version. Not so thrilled about the placement of it though. Rhyme and Reason - This was one of the last songs I was expecting to hear third in the setlist. This isn't one of my all time favorites, But it sounded incredible this time. It wasn't as hard as it's always been. It had a little funk to it. Recently - WoW. I've never seen this song played live so I was pretty stoked. It was nice and long with some great improving by Boyd and Leroi. Again, only a handful of people recognized it. Pay For What You Get - Nothing real new or special about this one. It got the crowd even more tuned out than they already were. Jimi Thing - Beautiful! It started out with that great Dave and Tim '97 intro, w/o Tim of course. This song was hard to sing along to because Dave made so many alterations to the chorus. True Reflections - They've played this a couple other times this year but I still wasn't expecting it. Listening to this song on tapes does seeing it live no justice whatsoever. It was outstanding! #41 - It was inevitable that they were gonna play this so there wasn't much of a surprise or thrill. A typical version. Say Goodbye - Dave totally made some alterations with the lyrics on this one. All I could hear were these girls behind me screaming "I Love you Dave, You're so Hot!" Get a life!! Two Step - This was another one that was inevitable, but It was great just the same. This is probably the best version I've heard to date. (And I've heard quite a few.) Crash into me - No comment.. Ants Marching - They usually play this to close the first set. But it was only the tenth song, So I was thinkin what's up! Extra long, powerful Boyd solo. Excellent version. So Much To Say - Phew, I thought the first set was gonna be over after the last one. I thought wrong, Because the two other radio songs haven't been played. Nothing too special about this one. Jam - I love this 2 min. long jam. I can't get enough of it. Too Much - The crowd was on their feet now. It finally got dark. No "Golden Years," or "Fame" Pretty basic version. Leave me praying - This song left me praying that someone taped the show. I haven't heard this song yet so I was thrilled. This song alone was worth the price of my ticket. I was left standing with my mouth open. Dancing Nancies - One of my favorites. Great improvisation. Extra long intro.

This was the first DMB show that I have been to, and I can't say that I could have picked a better one to start things off. I'm a big fan of the band but I've just gotten screwed out of going to a couple of shows in the past. As far as this one went, I couldn't have asked for a better night or a better setlist. I truly love LIOG and I thought it would be a great way to start off the show, but it was just so darn slow. Things didn't pick up with Billes either....still disappointment. Rhyme and Reason isn't one of my favorite songs off UTTAD but still ok. The show seemed to take off, for me at least, with an AWESOME version of Jimi Thing......A whopping 10 MINUTES!!!! I was kind of hoping for the "What Will Become of Me" outro but I had no such luck. What can I say about #41....it's just such a GREAT song, and in concert, three times as good. And then, there it was, one of teh few songs that I had really been waiting to hear....Say Goodbye. like I said, I have never been to any concerts but I have heard some live stuff and this one is always a treat because Dave will always change the lyrics! This time was no acception. By this time I was mezmorized...and then, something new to me.....something I had never heard before......BOYD SINGING, and what a voice! True Reflections is now on my top ten list. It really hit home with me. And then there was Crash. Speaking of top ten lists, this one is way at the top! "Show it ALL to me.." A lot of my frieds were waiting for 2 step and i can't say that I was disappointed with this one either. "bom bom bom doo doodoodoo" (that's the best I can do for a somewhat intro to Ants) There was only one way to describe this one INSANE. Evryone was SO on! Boyd and LeRoi were tore it up! So Much To Say bridged into Too Much was a totally cool way to get the crowd going and end the show. The stary back-drop left on stage was just something that was beyond words. The crowd wasn't going to give up though, not in the least. Lighters and chants for Dave filled Pine Knob. Then he was back, playing something else that I had never heard. Leave Me Praying is definatly a keeper. Nancies is always a great way to finish things! ONLy thing I was disappointed withwas the fact that there was no real Dave Speak. The only thing was sonething to the effect of, "How are all you up there on the lawn...on the grass. Yeah, I had a little grass (cheer) and if all you on the grass wanna have a lil grass too, that's cool"

Crowd: very good...however, mostly a "Crash" crowd. They didn't seem to be into the show too much until R&R, Recently, and PFWYG were over. Venue: I love Pine Knob...it's smaller than most amphitheatres so I guess that makes for a more receptive atmostphere (or something like that). Comments: Virtually NO Davespeak. He didn't even plug Greenpeace (however, I don't think Greenpeace was there tonight, so do the math). He did make his "How y'all doing on the grass? I like being on grass, too" comment. But that was about it. However, his lack of jabber-mouthing was made up for in the band's collective energy tonight. I've seen quite a few shows (this was my 7th full band concert) and this definitely ranked WAY up there. Probably not the best one I've seen, but damned close. The boys all seemed well-rested and they came to play. Dave's voice was in PHENOMENAL shape...he hit every note! No raspy voice, no "flu and cold season", no "Joe Cocker" tonight...I was very pleased. The whole band was definitely together. ROI WAS ON FIRE! They pretty much gave Roi the whole first half of the show, and his outstanding jams on "Recently", "Pay For...", "Jimi...", and "41/Say Goodbye" blew me away! I was so glad to see him in rare form. He was wearing BIG black sunglasses, white pants, a yellow t-shirt, and Nike tennis shoes...the man actually seemed to be enjoying himself. Boyd, as usual, was the MAN. "True Reflections" was so MONEY! THE best version I've ever heard! Also, I can't say enough about "Leave Me Praying"...very powerful. I feel very lucky right now that I witnessed the song live...let's hope he continues to put it in the setlist. My brother noted that it sounded kind of "Minarets"-ish. I sort of agree, but it definitely has it's own distinct sound. Also, very pleased to hear them finish with "Nancies" instead of "DIDO". No offense to the song, but the crowd loved it. I wouldn't doubt if they put "Two Step" and "Ants" from tonight's show on their forthcoming live CD...both were jaw-dropping versions, and considering that all band members had their shit EXTREMELY together tonight, it would be a wise move on their part (just my humble opinion!). Alright, Nancies, enough of this essay...I loved the show. We had GREAT seats, and the boys were stellar. Also, the rain held off for the entire duration of the show, so that was another plus. I think I forgot to mention that they left the stage at 10:45. Peace, y'all.
