I'll just let you know that its been offically confirmed that Oregon is the monsoon capital of the US, and in prime Oregon style we ALL got wet just before the show began. Wouldn't you know that the only one who came prepared was the girl from California--hehe. OSW--nice long intro--sweet and smooth...a great way to start off the evening BOWA--one of Robin's favorites...enjoyed by all TWO STEP--celebrate we did!!! TRIPPING BILLIES--Hell, you just gotta love watching Boyd sawing away at the strings...nothing like it to make you smile like a damn fool :>} #41--my all time favorite {insert SWOON here} beautiful each time I hear it LIOG--the first of 4 songs which included one of Los Lobos' guitarist and sax player WYNONNA--very cool...moody and moving TYPICAL SITUATION--very long---jam...jam...jam JIMI THING---!!!!!!!!!oh man...I'm saying that this was an AWE inspiring jimi! The lead guitarist from Los Lobos' and Dave were jamming back and forth...and the only thing left to say is that there was a Wha-wha peddle involved...blew us away!!! Carter??? damn! What he has is a gift from somewhere..."play for me play more" :>} ->THE BUBBLEMAN JAM---hehe--I'll 'splain...envision the dusk sky and streams of smoke filled bubbles floating by... smoke filled you say?? Yep: Davespeak hey, you smell something??? damn bubbleman, you need to float somemore of that up in my direction!! bubbles+a little "herbal" additive :>} earned some lucky guy a cool little jam NANCIES--dueling strings with Boyd and Dave--hehe--Boyd stepping up, Dave with this goofy "scared" look on his face backing away like don't hurt me man--tff WAREHOUSE--Debbie's request...it was so cool...should have whipped that sucker over quick like and requested your kiss ;>} SMTS--ahem...LITTLE BABY!!! Now there is a lizard and Nancies-shirt toss in here somewhere--hehe-- Rob almost took one of the security guys out with the lizard! Good arm honey!!! LEAVE ME PRAYING--beautiful version with "this land is your land... this land is my land...from the redwood forest...cool. Green Peace plug ANTS--I just have to say that I really used to like this song. Its not the overplay it received from the radio that soured me...its the fact that it usually means the END of a fine fine evening. I hear the first few cords and feel all disappointed now :>{ So, this is it! Sign-girl, lizard-lady, and t-shirt woman ALL had a wonderful time inspite of the liquid sunshine falling from the sky! Submitted by Jeff Davis I saw both the Portland show and the show at the Gorge the following night and both were the two best I've ever seen (6 total). The whole band was at their best and it's easy to see why their popularity is growing as fast as it is. First off, Portland Meadows isn't the greatest place to catch a concert- it's a racetrack and everyone is stuck on the infield and it's close to a highway. But it's all general admission and if you can put up with some pushing and shoving, can score some seats if you arrive early. Managaged to find ourselves 30 feet from the band, the closest I've ever been and may not be ever again. HEre's a rundown of the setlist: OSW: great opener and the intro adds a lot to it. BOWA: glad to see them playing this song regularly on this tour- one of their best songs and certainly a rockin' one in concert. really got the crowd into it and set the scene. TWO Step: I have to say this is their best song it concert. although it isn't my favorite overall, this song it a lot better live than on Crash and the beginning with Dave and Boyd facing each other and the first verse which you can barely understand make it one of their best. Tripping Billies: a classic and the acoustic intro couldn't be better. wanted to have "nature" but still great. #41: again, a song that improves a lot in concert and a great jam too. Say Goodbye: could do without with song- i don't particularly like it and I've seen it done 3 times now just like on the CD. LIOG: incredible song it concert and I was "blown away" and like the repeat of "I can't believe.." at the end. The jam in the middle lost a lot, though because the Los Lobos guy got in on the act- I went their to see Dave and when Los Lobos finished their opening set, the should have been done for good. WYnona: don't like it that much but hey, it's still Dave. Typical Situation/Jimi Thing...Dancing Nancies/Warehouse: All of these songs from UTTAD were fabulous with great jams. Have never sounded better and you heard about the "Bubbleman" thang. Great to see the band pull out the classics and hope this continues in the future. Crash: Great song w/ "I'm swimmin' in your seas and in your ocean"- like most long time fans, though, the radio crowd gets really annoying with their singin along. I liked this song years ago in alternate versions and it's always been my favorite and wish the band woulnd't always play it like on the radio. Dave used to ad lib and it added a lot to the song but that's what happens I guess when you get popular. So Much to Say-->Too Much: Again, the radio crowd was annoying and I wish they wouldn't play these two together since I've seen it four times now done exactly that way. But for first-timers, I'm sure it's cool so I can't complain Too Much. Leave Me Praying: I'm hoping this doesn't appear on the new album. Sounds totally different than any DMB song I've ever heard and I don't think it will grow on me. Ants Marching: Always great to hear no matter what and a great way to end any show although we'd all agree that even 5 hours of Dave wouldn't be enough. Overall, a fun show and, besides the Gorge, my best ever.
