First off, I was kind of diappointed they only played 6 songs when Metallica played 10 and they weren't even headlining!  OH well.  With lawn seats and a late arrival we hadn't expected the best concert of our lives but it turned out pretty good because we snagged the last bit of green right in the front cenetr in front of the big screen and in between the two main speakers.

I know this is a DMB review but I just have to  say that Lou Reed and Blues tRaveler and Neil Young made the 7 hours before David came on fly right by. Though I could've done w/o Alanis Morisette's screeching.

David first says "We especially want to say thanks to Neil and Peggy for  putting today together and we're all having such a great time and most especially these kids back here which is the reason we all get together and party". For those of you who don't know, the Bridge Benefit is a benifit for a school in SF for severely mentally disabled kids.  Neil Young's son, ben, goes there, and his wife Peggy runs the school, so they put on this annual event.  All the kids in wheelchairs sit in a semicircle in the back of the stage during the show.

LIOG: I liked this as an opener a lot.  It was very upbeat.  My fave is Two Step but this is a much better opener.  David sings: "It's the best way" in the breakdown but there was no "and then we dance away" oh well..maybe next time.

Two Step: YaY! David's favorite song from Crash which means they play it all the time.  Celebrate we did, especially with Stefan's amazing acoustic bass solo in the beginning.

David was wearing a huge pair of pants (bigger than I've ever seen) and a huge turtleneck sweater and he says "I'm wearing this turtleneck 'cause it was kind of chilly backstage but now I'm sweating--but sweating's ok!"

#41: What a beautiful song to hear live.  It was much easier to hear than when they played it at the Shoreline in the summer-perhaps because of my location--and Carter did something with the drums to make them sound softer (Since the show is all acoustic). I couldn't tell you what he did since I'm not a percussion expert but the song sounded very relaxed and pretty.

Too Much: This was surprising since I thought they might stick with the slower songs but this one rocked.  Davud looked really uncomfortable to have to be sitting on the stool, looked like he wanted to get up and so the lil' dance of his..I wish he had.  This was my favorite of the set.

Crash: Hmm. Expected it.  I kinda wish he played redemption song or Cry freedom since I've heard this one live so many times..and on mtv...and on the radio..and vH1.  And he skipped the whole ending which is my favorite part of the song "I'm the king of the castle...swimming in your sea, big ocean.."  But the radio crowd loved this one.

Billies: Throughout the night John Popper had been guesting with various people--even Metallica-- so David says "We don't have a harmonica player and everyone else seems to have a hamronica player and we don't want to be left out so we thought we'd ask our good friend John Popper to come out here and play with us."  Enter John.  This was the best version of Tripping Billies!! John and Boyd went at it for a long time but it wasn't long enough for me.  David couldn't resist it at the end, he jumped off his stool and gave everyone a huge Davejump!! A perfect ending..

After them was Smashing Pumpkins and surprise guest Marilyn Manson and I thought it was pretty reminiscent of the MM cover David did in the winter tour and I had a pretty funny vision of MM doing a cover of DMB..now that  would be a sight!
