AMAZING! The opener of So Much To Say into Bridge, into Pantala, into Rapunzel was a great choice. After the closing notes of Rapunzel, the place went nuts. Granny kept the energy somewhat high, but Spoon was really unforgettable. I never thought I'd hear them play this song live and the energy of the jam at the end was so intense. The version of Don't Drink the Water was the best I ever heard. Dave did some really crazy vocal stuff at the end of the song that was totally new to me and it really caught me by surprise. Of course, the highlight of the night may have been Jimi Thing with the great Dickey Betts. It was such an awesome jam, topped off by a Dave skat. Stay in the middle of the set was really cool, kept the energy high. I don't really like I Dit It, but somehow it was fun this time. Crush was awesome as always, and the closer Two Step had everyone going crazy. Butch's Latin sounding solo was tight, and Carter's drum solo had everyone wowed as well. I never get tired of that intense ending. I thought it was strange that Ants was the first song in the encore. It didn't have the snare hit intro, and the whole opening jam was missing, but the end was still played well. What You Are is a neat closer. Dave's yelling "God is on my side" was interesting to watch. They played the hell out of that song. Great show, some very neat stuff. Very strong setlist. Tons of energy.

Well, I must say, this was the oddest DMB show I have ever seen. I would prefer to use the word "worst" but considering I am talking about the Dave Matthews Band, I cannot be that extreme. What started out as one of the strongest, hardest, highest sets I have ever seen, turned into something... well unlike the begininng. The energy was crazy at the start (!!) which you can tell from the tunes, but after an intense (!!!!!) DDTW something went wrong. First, Dave skipped an entire verse of Grey St. which caught Boyd off guard, but he recovered no prob. Then the opening act joined the band for Jimi Thing which turned into a very awkward, way too long jam. Long story short, Carter ended up have to do 4 huge drum slams through out the night to end songs that were going nowhere, and the band almost completely stopped playing during Two Step when they tossed it to Butch, and he completely swiched the beat into some latin rthym no one could follow. Then we waited FOREVER in between the show and the Encore- which was weak to say the least. Overall I walked away dissapointed, especially because it was my third year at SPAC and the night before had been A-MAZ-ING!!!! Oh yeah and the weirdest thing of all, the crowd was very weird, very young, would not stop moving around (out on the lawn) and reminded me of the Darien Center crowd. Yuck! But I still love the guys and cannot wait for Some Devil Sept. 23rd!!!
