The Prism Shuts Down

By Waldo Jaquith

Charlottesville coffeehouse venue The Prism shut down last night after forty years of operation. It was the location of early performances by Dave Matthews and his first collaboration with Tim Reynolds. The venue was an old house; performances were in the living room, where a few dozen people could sit comfortably. Artists sat in front of the fireplace. Coffee, tea, and cookies were available in the kitchen, under the honor system. The Prism was the oldest continually-operated coffeehouse venue in the nation. Charlottesville weekly The Hook has the full story on their blog.
